Initiatives geared
toward the Global Compact

We're the first company in the Japanese rental industry to announce its participation in the Global Compact.

Pursuant to the Global Compact advocated by the United Nations, the Rentia Group made its participation official in August of 2010. We were the first company in Japan to express our intent to participate, and on the stage of international society, we look to take an active part under the mindset of the benefitted triad with regard to the social responsibilities a company should fulfill.

What is the Global Compact?

In 1999, former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan advocated the Global Compact at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and this independent action principle for the creation of a sustainable society was officially initiated at UN Headquarters in New York (2000).
It requires support and practice of the 10 principles of the Global Compact from the four fields of human rights, labour, environment, and prevention of corruption by participating companies and groups. As of March 2022, more than 15,000 companies and groups from 165 countries have joined.

10 Principles of the Global Compact

Human Rights

Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Labour

Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Environment

Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Anti-Corruption

Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
